    Role of Thrombospondin -1 in the Remodeling Induced by a Chronic Increase in Flow in Resistance Arteries.

    Chronic increases in blood flow, induce local inflammation, MMP activation, arterial diameter and NO-dependent dilation in resistance arteries. Thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) is a large matricellular glycoprotein secreted by many cell types such as endothelial cell, smooth muscle cell and immune cell. It is a component of the extracellular matrix during active and subacute processes. Due to TSP-1’s ability to interact with a variety of matrix proteins and cell-surface receptors controversy exists about its conflicting functions. We investigated the TSP-1 effect in a high flow (HF) mesenteric artery remodeling model.
